He who rests, rusts
Exercise is an important part of long-term therapy, especially for horses suffering from arthrosis. The four-hoofed patients often have to "run in" until the joint pain becomes bearable. The cause of the pain, which manifests itself as lameness, is the more or less rapidly progressing wear and tear of the joint cartilage combined with inflammatory processes. Further consequences are bone changes in the area of the affected joint: degeneration or growths make mobility difficult.
Hoof and leg joints are particularly susceptible to chronic joint problems, which are very often caused by overloading the musculoskeletal system, poor hoof condition and inadequate shock absorption.
Nature has built some natural shock absorbers into our horses' musculoskeletal system. The hoof is one of them and "hoof mechanism" describes this function as the ability of the hoof capsule to twist under load on uneven ground. This distributes the energy of the impact force and absorbs a large part of the shock energy from the joints. The elasticity of the hoof horn also plays a major role in shock absorption, as does the shape and balance of the hoof. With arthrosis, however, this natural shock absorption is often no longer sufficient. In addition, many of our domestic horses' hooves are no longer able to optimally fulfil their natural shock-absorbing function due to our posture, use and inappropriate hoof care.

nicht passende Hufbearbeitung nicht mehr in der Lage, ihre natürliche

Effective measures for arthrosis:
- Remove iron fittings - the
"clanking effect" (vibration) of the iron has a direct and negative
effect on the joints. Instead of shock absorption, shock amplification takes
place and wear progresses faster
- Good hoof care - short trimming
intervals keep the hooves in the best possible shape all year round. The aim is
a good, functional bare hoof with an elastic hoof sole, well-angled hoof walls
and a co-operating frog pad
- Increase shock absorption - hoof boots with myFREEDM Therapie, Sport or Freizeit soles multiply the shock absorption and increase walking comfort, which is immediately noticeable in the horse's greater pleasure of movement
Good to know: myFREEDM soles have very high shock absorption, which means beneficial relief for diseased joints: pain is greatly reduced. Due to the energy return of the material, the horse perceives the ground as loosely springy: movement becomes easier. For many arthrosis horses, the running-in period is significantly reduced and the gain in quality of life is enormous.
